About LSI

Welcome to the Life Sciences Institute website!

The Life Sciences Institute was formally set up in 2001 under the name of the office of Life Sciences with the mission to develop the National University of Singapore into a world-class research and education hub in the life sciences. It has since reached full institute status and hence been renamed on 1 April 2008.

We aim to accomplish this through coordinating, integrating and facilitating life science research throughout the University and affiliated institutions. In line with the Government’s emphasis on Life Sciences as the next pillar of Singapore’s economy, we are also changed with launching new research initiative and teaching programmes.

We are in close collaboration with the five core faculties involved in research and teaching of life Sciences. These five faculties are : the School of Computing, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Engineering. Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and Faculty of Science. LSI will focus on enhancing research in the life sciences within NUS and at the same time we will encourage collaboration with research institutes within and outside NUS, as well as with renowned international institutes.

In this light, I am confident that we will grow in line with the NUS mission and goals towards proving quality education; engaging in high-impact research; and promoting entrepreneurship and industry collaboration.

I am certain that as you view the web pages, you will find boundles opportunities when you engage with the programmes under the Life Science Institute.
