Citation Laureate 2021

Professor Barry Halliwell, Senior Advisor (Academic Appointments and Research Excellence), NUS Office of the Senior Deputy President and Provost, has been conferred Citation Laureate for 2021. The distinction is awarded by information and insights company Clarivate to researchers whose work has been deemed to be of “Nobel Class” as they are among the most highly cited and influential, even transformative, in their fields.

Prof James Goh, from NUS Tissue Engineering Programme, was awarded on 20 November 2020 the International Union for Physical and Engineering Sciences in Medicine (IUPESM) Fellowship. Singapore Spine Society Award

Congratulations to Prof Wong Hee Kit, of NUS Tissue Engineering Program, who received the First Prize Award conducted by the Singapore Spine Society on 23 January 2021. This is for his research on "The Longitudinal Impact of Intervertebral Disc Distraction on Disc Health – A Preliminary, in VIVO Study Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging in a Rabbit Model".

Research teams led by Professor Barry Halliwell, Programme Leader of LSI Neurobiology Programme, revealed that low levels of ergothioneine (ET) in blood plasma may predict an increased risk of cognitive impairment and dementia, suggesting possible therapeutic or early screening measures for cognitive impairment and dementia in the elderly.
