What are your present research interests?

I have been working on tissue engineering, prosthetics & orthotics, biomechanics of the musculoskeletal system, gait analysis, ortho-paedic implant and design research. My specific interest is with the use of Bombyx mori silk material for regenerative medicine.

Do you have a distinctive viewpoint to your research?

Having been in the field for many years, I often observed that innovations have largely been inspired by nature. In line with this perspective, our group has looked upon nature for inspiration in approaches for specific tissue regeneration.

What do you see as your future research directions?

With the experience of numerous research studies in tissue regeneration, I am keen on bringing the knowledge and technology further towards clinical application and commercial-ization. No doubt there are many challenges, we are still confidently pushing our research towards clinical applications, being boosted along the way by promising preclinical results.

Does your laboratory have a particularly strong research expertise?

I am deeply intrigued by biopolymers, especially silk fibroin, which has been shown to be an excellent material due to its unique properties. With this material, our group has created different forms for various interesting applications.
